Exhibition Statement

Contemporary ceramic artists show diverse styles with their unique perspectives and creativity. They not only continue the long-standing art form of ceramics, but also incorporate contemporary thinking and technology into it to create stunning works. Each artist redefines the possibilities of ceramics through different techniques, allowing people to experience rich emotions and profound cultural reflections during the appreciation process.

We are honoured to invite five top artists from Japan to showcase their skills and styles:

1. Sayaka Shinku

Inspired by the growth and withering of flowers, Sayaka Shinku uses delicate carving techniques to show the fragility and beauty of life, encouraging viewers to think about their own connection with nature.

2. Yu Tanaka

With her iconic wrapping shape, Yu Tanaka challenges the boundaries between form and function, and uses innovative hand-building technology to give the work a unique visual and tactile feel.

3. Tomonari Hashimoto

Combining metal oxide glazes with traditional "buckwheat shell" firing techniques, Tomonari Hashimoto creates stunning colours and textures, demonstrating a superb experimental spirit.

4. Tomoya Sakai

Through geometric shapes and abstract expressions, personal and collective memories are reflected, and various ceramic techniques are used to transform emotions into the language of visual art.

5. Hiroyuki Yamada

The original ceramic speaker combines technology and art to demonstrate the cross-sensory stimulation potential of ceramics and open up a new auditory and visual experience.

Through this exhibition, we hope that when the audience appreciates the works of each artist, they can feel their unique skills and emotions, and discover themselves in these unique works of art.
